The Wenchuan earthquake has left many people losing their other half. Finding a new companion is a way to help these people move on.

According to government statistics, there are over 6,000 families that lost their children in the May 12 earthquake and have the intention to raise another one, but the aftershocks, the pain of losing relatives and their ages are major obstacles.

Psychological pain -confusion about the future

"The most difficult time the psychological pain is over, but it is replaced by confusion about the future,"- A social work teacher

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD-- is a professional term not often used by ordinary people. But perhaps not many, with PTSD now considered a major challenge to the psychological health of many survivors of the Sichuan earthquake.

Reality of life-- As the breadwinner of the family, Liu looked for jobs elsewhere, but was turned down because of his age. "I´m not competitive on the market. More importantly, I don´t have technical skills, except from doing hard labor in the pit."

Reconstruction progress

January, 2009

40 percent of the homes devastated in the May 12th earthquake last year have been rebuilt, and nearly all the damaged homes have been repaired.

November, 2008

The first memorial park to the 87,000 dead and missing from China´s May 12 earthquake opened in the southwestern Sichuan Province.

September, 2008

Relief workers had finished building all the 677,131 temporary houses needed in the areas ravaged by the May 12 earthquake.

July, 2008

Relief workers had built more than 439,000 temporary houses and were setting up another 22,000.
