Latest official figures show that 40 percent of the homes devastated in the May 12th earthquake last year have been rebuilt, and nearly all the damaged homes have been repaired.

The new homes in Sichuan and Shaanxi Provinces were rebuilt in different and safer locations. All the new buildings are designed to withstand strong quakes.
The central government offered subsidies of 10-thousand yuan to each household whose home was destroyed in the disaster. The rebuilding of all the rural homes in the quake-hit region is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
