Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says he will work with any newly elected Israeli leader, so long as they don't set back the peace process.

Abbas appeared to be targeting Benjamin Netanyahu, the hard-line opposition leader seen as front-runner ahead of Israeli February 10 elections.

Abbas said Israel and the international community should act fast to ensure a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians.

Abbas's European tour is aimed at ensuring that his moderate Fatah party is not sidelined from those diplomatic efforts.

Abbas's aides say he is seeking European support this week for a unity government and a role in rebuilding the impoverished Gaza Strip.
