American journalist Roxana Saberi has been reunited with her parents after her release from an Iranian prison on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran, a smiling Saberi thanked those who had helped win her release from the prison, where she'd been held for four months on charges of spying for the US.

Roxana Saberi, Iranian-American journalist, said, "I am of course very happy to be free and to be with my parents again and I want to thank all the people all over the world, which I am just finding out about really, who, whether they knew me or not, helped me and my family during this period."

One of Saberi's lawyers said she was originally convicted in part because she had visited Israel. Another reason may have been due to a confidential Iranian government document about the US war in Iraq.

Saberi obtained the document while working as a freelance Web translator for a powerful body connected to Iran's ruling clerics.
