US support in Pakistan assists Afghan war

The US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan says Washington is not backing away from its support of the Zardari government.

Richard Holbrooke says Pakistan is facing tremendous challenges and needs US help to counter Taliban advances.

He also played down suggestions the US is shifting support from Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to opposition leader Nawaz Sharif.

President Barack Obama will meet the leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan to talk about their situation and US military action in Afghanistan.
