Two fresh cold fronts are expected to bring plunging temperatures to much of China starting Tuesday evening. But meteorologists say there's little chance of a repetition of last winter's extreme cold and snow.

The cold front is expected to bring moderate snow to northern China, sending temperatures down 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. A stronger cold front is expected to sweep across the south later this week.

The National Meteorological Bureau says the coming snows could alleviate drought in parts of northern China, and help disperse smog over the region. The Bureau has ruled out a repetition of last winter's extreme weather in southern China, as temperatures there remain at a normal level.
