Temperatures have started to rise in central and eastern China, as the cold snap recedes. |
In east China's Shandong Province, snow stopped falling in the cities of Yantai and Weihai on Thursday. The international airport in Yantai has reopened with some luxury passenger ships also resuming operation on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, in the southwest province of Guizhou, there were heavy frosts in the mountains. In north China's Shanxi Province, along the banks of the Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River, icicles formed.
The cold snap brought a drop of between 6 and 20 degrees Celsius in most parts of China over the past few days. The weather caused disruptions to transport and livestock husbandry in south China. But experts say the snow can help wheat pull through the cold winter in the north.
Forecasters say another cold front will hit Inner Mongolia, northern and northeast China on Monday, bringing strong winds and falling temperatures.
