Martin J. Sullivan, CEO of American Int'l Group, said, "The Boston government is another example. It requires all the taxis in the city to use equipments that consume less fuel than normal vehicles. And that saves up to 60 percent of gasoline. I believe the practice will also do good if it is introduced into Shanghai."

In response, local authorities say they are trying to alleviate traffic congestion in downtown by building more public transportation infrastructures.

Li Wenhui, director of Shanghai Traffic M'ment Bureau, said, "We have planned 64 public transportation centres, including 37 where residents can make transfers or park their cars."

CEO of the Canada based Bombardier Company, Laurent Beaudoin emphasized that banks can play a key role in environmental protection, since they can offer loans to encourage the development of energy efficient technologies, while simultaneously cutting back financial support to companies producing pollutants. His proposal was seconded by local banking authorities.
