On the sidelines of the UN summit on climate change, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad held talks on the Middle East peace process.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said establishing security in Gaza and the West Bank is a priority of the region and is in everybody's interest.

Tzipi Livni said, "I believe that Israel's security is not only the Israeli need and the future of their own generations."

However, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad stressed that it was vital for Palestinians to have more autonomy before real progress could be made.

Salam Fayyad said, "We all know as a technical matter...this is what this exercise is all about."

Last Wednesday, Israel declared the Gaza Strip an "enemy entity" and said it would cut back power and fuel supplies to the coastal territory.

Israel did not set a date for a cutback, meant to force Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip to halt their rocket fire on southern Israel.
