UN calls on Israel´s statement of "enemy entity"

A top United Nations diplomat has called on Israel to reconsider its decision to declare Gaza an "enemy entity," saying Israel would be in violation of international and humanitarian law if it were to cut-off vital services to the Gaza Strip.

UN Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe,made the comments in his monthly briefing to Security Council members on the situation in the Middle East.

B. Lynn Pascoe said, "Yesterday the Israeli Security Cabinet declared Gaza an "enemy entity" and announced its intentions to interrupt essential services such as electricity and fuel to the civilian population.

Israel has also closed the strip for the movement of Palestinians in and out and indicated that it will severely restrict the movement of internationals.
