General elections in Greece are only 11 days away. And the recent devastating fires dominate the country's political arena. The forest fires killed 64 people and left catastrophic damage. The government's handling of the devastation is under growing criticism from the opposition and the public.

The political climate in Greece is heating up.

The unprecedented forest fires started on August 24th and lasted 10 days. The fires have left thousands homeless, destroyed entire villages and turned thousands of acres of forest to ashes.

The government has admitted to mistakes in fire management. It has already paid out more than 107 million euros in compensation, and secured funds from the European Union.
