On Friday, Japan's Supreme court turned down a damage lawsuit. It was filed by Chinese laborers who were seeking legal compensation over their suffering during Japan's invasion in the Second World War.

The plaintiffs demanded that the Tokyo company. Nishimatsu Construction Corporation apologize and compensate them.

The damage suit was filed in 1998. And the five plaintiffs include two former wartime forced-laborers and three families of the three who had already died.

In July 2004, Hiroshima's High Court awarded damages in full, the first time case of its kind. But Nishimatsu did not accept the ruling and appealed to the Supreme Court.
