Iran says it wants to stay within the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and says sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council are illegal.
The country's President says Tehran will continue its peaceful resistance to sanctions. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad adds that the country's nuclear activities are non-violent and are being conducted under the supervision of the UN's nuclear watchdog.
Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, and EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, are set to meet in Turkey on Wednesday for talks on Iran's nuclear programme the first meeting since the UN Security Council stepped up sanctions on Tehran last month.
