Premier Wen said the election was open and fair, and conformed to Basic Law in the special administrative region.

Wen Jiabao spoke highly of Tsang's performance during the nearly two years he served as Hong Kong chief executive after being elected in June 2005. He says under Tsang's leadership, Hong Kong has better government, a more developed economy, better lives for its people, and has handled various problems of public concern. The Premier says Tang's administration has been widely applauded by local people.

The Central Government hopes Donald Tsang will continue to make greater contributions to Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability, thoroughly implement Basic Law and adhere to the principle of "one country, two systems".

In a statement, Tsang thanked the Central Government for reappointing him as Hong Kong Chief Executive. He promised to lead the Hong Kong government in a pragmatic manner and bring Hong Kong's development to a new height.
