Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has officially reappointed Donald Tsang as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The Chief Executive begins his new term on July 1st.

Premier Wen Jiabao endorsed the appointment at a meeting of the State Council on Monday.

He says Donald Tsang's election victory reflects the trust the people of Hong Kong have in him.

Under the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the chief executive is elected by a broadly representative Election Committee and then appointed by the central government.

Donald Tsang won more than 80 percent of the ballots, out-polling Alan Leong, the only other candidate in the March 25th election.
