Envoys from the five permanent members on the United Nations Security Council plus Germany have agreed to work on a new resolution. They hope this will put more pressure on Iran over its nuclear program.

But the group made up of the United States, France, Russia, China and Britain plus Germany says it remains committed to a diplomatic solution.

Monday's talks came after the UN's nuclear watchdog confirmed Iran had ignored a deadline to stop enriching uranium. And international tensions are now on the rise over Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The West fears Iran is trying to build nuclear arms, while Tehran says it only wants to produce nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
