Jia Qinglin meets WCC delegation

China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, has met a delegation from the World Council of Churches, headed by General Secretary, Samuel Kobia, in Beijing.

Jia Qinglin said religion can play an active role in creating a harmonious society in China. He said the government supports communication between China's official Christian organizations and religious organizations overseas, based on the One China policy, equality and friendship. Samuel Kobia said his group had witnessed the development of Christianity in China and the freedom for Chinese people to believe in various religions. He said the World Council of Churches would adhere to the One China Policy and that it would not allow Taiwan Independence activities in the Council.

Samuel Kobia is satisfied with the development of Christianity in China

After his meeting with Jia Qinglin, Samuel Kobia spoke with our reporter Feng Jinchao. He said he was satisfied with the development of Christianity in China, adding that a US State Department report criticizing the country's religious environment, was inappropriate.
