State television in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Sunday broadcast still photos of Kim Jong Il inspecting a military unit.

KRT did not say when and where the images had been taken. AP television was unable to verify the details or authenticity of the photos.

The 67-year-old leader was pictured being shown military exercise plans by an artillery commander from Unit 1811.

State media has not released live footage of Kim since his reported stroke in August last year.

The latest pictures come as the DPRK plans to send a communication satellite into space.
