Mushir al-Masri says both groups have received an invitation from Egypt to begin talks on February 22nd. He says Hamas wants to secure the release of around 500 of its men arrested by Fatah.

Egypt is trying to broker an agreement between the feuding factions. Hamas now controls the Gaza Strip, while Fatah runs the West Bank.

During meetings in Cairo next week, Egypt will also try to broker a long-term truce between Israel and Hamas in place of a temporary cease-fire.
