During the meeting with Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Premier Wen called for closer economic links with the EU in the face of the global economic crisis. The Spanish Prime Minister promised closer relations under the Spanish EU presidency in 2010. The two countries also signed a series of trade agreements, which will improve business relations.

Wen Jiabao, Chinese prime minister, said, "People involved in business from both our countries have been able to sign many different deals at a time when the international financial crisis is having an ever increasing impact. The deals have allowed us to see that this cooperation can give us great hope for the development of both economies."

Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Spanish prime minister, said, "When Spain assumes the presidency of the EU in 2010, we will help to ensure that the work we have begun today in the area of commercial relations is intensified."
