Sandra Viera, Los Angeles Resident, said, "I think he's the man for the job right now. This is the hardest times we've been in, and he's like the smartest man. He's the multi-racial man who can bring us together during this time of strife in our country. And he's the perfect guy for the job."

In the capital, Washington, DC, people gathered around televisions throughout the city.

Wayne Harper, New Jersey Resident, said, "When I was young, they said, 'You can be president.' It really wasn't that much of a reality for me to be president when I was young. Now, when we say, 'You can grow up to be president,' for all of these young kids, it will be a reality, based on today."

Polls show most Americans have expressed confidence that the new president can tackle challenges the country is facing, especially turning the economy around.
