Bush leaves as private citizen

Obama's taking office also means the end of George W. Bush's turbulent terms at White House.

After the inauguration, the former president fulfilled his last duties, and left as private citizen.

The new President and First Lady escorted George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush to a helicopter alongside the US Capitol.

The Bushes will first stop at Andrews Air Force Base. They will then fly to Midland, Texas, where Bush spent his childhood.

On Monday, Bush, in keeping with a White House tradition, wrote a note to Obama, wishing him well as his presidency begins.
