Officials: Egypt, Hamas closer on Gaza 10-day cease-fire

On the same day, Israel allowed aid trucks with essential supplies to cross the border into Gaza during a three-hour halt in fighting. Among the vehicles allowed in were Egyptian ambulances and paramedics taking seriously injured Palestinians to Egypt for treatment.
On the diplomatic front, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon began a week-long trip to the Middle East. He's calling for intensifying negotiations and an "immediate" halt to the fighting.
Egypt also says Hamas is getting to an agreement of terms to halt the conflict saying the deal would be presented to Israel for approval soon.
The Palestinian death toll now stands at 1,017, with Gaza officials saying nearly half are civilians. And another 45-hundred people have been injured in the conflict.
