Former US president Jimmy Carter was the first to address the seminar on Monday. As an important witness and participant in US establishing diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, Carter looked back at the development of US-China relations over three decades. He recalled the time when he and late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping negotiated during Deng's visit to the US in 1979. Carter said US-Chinese relations have benefited both countries and the world at large.

Qian Qichen, Former Chinese Foreign Minister, also addressed the seminar. He reviewed what has been achieved over the past 30 years and looked to the future of Sino-US relations. He hoped that the two countries will deepen mutual trust, broaden their understanding, strengthen cooperation and make joint efforts for continuous growth of the constructive and cooperative relationship between China and the US.

Also at the seminar were those who have contributed to Sino-US relations. They include former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.

The seminar concludes on Tuesday.
