As part of celebrations of 3 decades of diplomatic ties, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice President Xi Jinping have also met with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Hu Jintao expressed gratitude to people on both sides who have made contributions to China-U.S relations. He also said that a strategic partnership between the two countries is in the interest of the two nations.

Hu Jintao said that although China and the U.S. differ in political systems, economic development and cultural values, the two countries should properly resolve disputes and expand cooperation to deal with global challenges.

Carter said the relationship between the U.S and China has become one of the most important bilateral ties in the world. He also said the two sides should work together to promote world peace and development.
