Thailand's new foreign minister arrived in Phnom Penh on Monday for talks with his Cambodian counterpart an attempt to defuse a row over a 900-year-old temple.

The talks on the simmering border dispute came after a brief clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers along the border earlier in October.

But the one-day meeting made little headway, with the foreign ministers failing to reach an agreement.

Tensions flared between the two countries in July after the ancient Preah Vihear temple became a UNESCO world heritage site, irking nationalists in Thailand who claim ownership of the site.
