Special Report:   3.14 Tibet Riots

China has once again expressed its strong indignation and opposition to a US House of Representatives resolution on China's handling of the recent riots in Lhasa.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of China's National People's Congress says the resolution was passed without proper consideration of China's position and against its strong opposition. The NPC Foreign Affairs committee says it seriously interferes with China's internal affairs and hurts the feelings of the Chinese people.

The NPC says the riots in Lhasa were masterminded and organized by the Dalai Clique. Their aim is to create chaos, split Tibet from the motherland, sabotage the harmonious life of the Tibetan people, and disrupt the Beijing Olympics.

The NPC is indignant that the US House of Representatives has confused right and wrong. Instead of condemning the rioters, who carried out beating, smashing, looting, and burning in Lhasa, the US Congress is blaming the Chinese government and people. This goes against both common sense and conscience.

The NPC says Tibet is an inalienable part of China and the issue is China's internal affair. No foreign country or international organization should interfere.

The NPC says the Dalai clique has been engaging in separatist activities for many years. It says the purpose of these actions is to confront the central government instead of seeking dialogue, to stir up violence instead of pursuing peace.

The NPC demands the US House of Representatives respect the facts, abandon its political prejudice and double standards, respect the practice of international relations, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs.

The NPC says shielding of and conniving with the Dalai Clique only serves to let people recognize the clique's real face and the real purpose of the US Congress. The statement says the Chinese people are unshakable in a desire to safeguard the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, Tibet's stability, and the country's ethnic unity.

The NPC says China will not yield to any foreign pressure. The progress of the Chinese people, along with the development of Tibet, will not be obstructed by any forces.
