Hu Jintao: Xinjiang urged to promote unity of ethnic groups

President Hu Jintao urged local officials to seize the opportunity of the Western Development Program China is pushing forward. Hu made the call at a group discussion of lawmakers from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He called on officials in Xinjiang to accelerate local economic growth and build a harmonious society. And this includes further promoting unity among the various ethnic groups in Xinjiang. And with Saturday being International Women's Day, Hu Jintao conveyed greetings to all the Chinese women on behalf of the CPC Central Committee.

Wen Jiabao: Agriculture is key to Henan

In his discussion with lawmakers from the central province of Henan, Premier Wen Jiabao stressed the importance of agriculture in taming inflation and maintaining the country's economic development at a stable and fast pace. He called on Henan people to do their best to bring in a good harvest and ensure grain and farm produce supply. This would help restrain the fast increase in CPI and protect the standard of living for low income groups. The premier praise Henan's contributions to the country's food security, and called on the province to do even better.
