Special Report:   Winter Storm Relief

Cold fronts moving east from Central Asia have brought a new round of snow storms to parts of China. Temperatures are beginning to fall sharply in many regions.

In East China's Shandong and Anhui provinces, several highways have been closed due to the icy surface. All daytime flights have been cancelled in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Snow is covering more than 100 counties in central China's Henan province, and local authorities have issued a Yellow warning.

Staff at Bangbu train station in east China's Anhui province have cleared away the snow from the platforms. They put mats at the entrance and exit to ensure the passengers do not slip.

China's central and southern provinces only recently experienced a snow disaster. Now they're faced with even more snow and cold temperatures, with Hunan provinces to be hit the worst with a drop of up to 10 degrees Celsius. Experts say the weather may affect agriculture, and have warned farmers to protect their crops.

The China Meteorological Observatory has forecast medium and heavy snow to hit eastern, western and central China in the next three days. Blizzards may also hit the northwestern part of Hubei Province.
