President Hu Jintao spends lunar new year in Guangxi, praises soldiers´ snow relief work

Chinese President Hu Jintao was in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for the start of the New Year holidays. There, he took time out to meet the local armed forces, sending Spring Festival wishes on behalf of the central government and the Party.

In a festive mood, the city welcomed the president who had just finished a disaster inspection tour of Guilin.

On Thursday morning, Hu Jintao went to an armed forces base in Nanning, capital of the Region. He greeted officers and soldiers who have worked right through the Spring Festival.

Through a web video in the control center, Hu Jintao talked with soldiers on patrol and asked them about their work during the holidays.

President Hu praised them for their hard work and loyalty in safeguarding the nation and serving the people.

He said "Soldiers, today is the first day on the Chinese lunar calendar, you are still fulfilling your patrol responsibilities and you have been working very hard. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, I would like to pay my sincere thanks to all of you, and extend my greetings for the Spring Festival."

The president also went to the army's canteen where he watched the chefs at work. President Hu then joined a group of soldiers making dumplings.

Hu Jintao encouraged the armed forces to strive to do their best at all times. He hoped the army could further study the spirit of the Party's 17th National Congress, solidify the building of the army and carry out their tasks well.

Hu Jintao also urged the soldiers to better shoulder their responsibilities given by the people and the party, and contribute more to maintaining national security and social stability.
