Students in Wuhan are forced to stay at their universities as prolonged snow has disrupted travel. But they may still be able to enjoy the festivities on the campus.

Wuhan University is one of China's most prestigious institutes of higher learning. And it is usually very quiet at this time of the year.when students are normally already with their families. But this year, over seven-hundred are still on campus.

Feng Bo is in the third year of his degree course. He is from Zunyi City in Guizhou Province, a region severely affected by the winter storms, which paralyzed traffic and disrupted daily life.

As Feng Bo says, the university is trying its best to take care of the students who have to stay on campus for the Spring Festival. Teachers and managerial staff have been paying frequent visits to dormitories and canteens They have also handed out free phone cards to students so they can call back home and speak to their relatives whenever they wish.

Wang Chuanzhong, vice Gen-sec'y of Wuhan University CPC Committee, said, "The university has given every student who is staying here for the New Year a 200 yuan allowance to get through the holiday, and those from poor families get an extra 100 yuan. The Wuhan Municipal Government has also allocated an additional 150 yuan for each student. They can't go home on the most important date of the year.

so we will arrange a great Spring Festival dinner for them and usher in the New Year together in a warm and friendly atmosphere."

A chef of Wuhan Universiy Canteen said, "We see this as a very important duty. The students can't go back home due to transportation difficulties caused by the heavy snow fall. So we want to do our best to offer them the best meal we can and spend the New Year together with them so they can feel as much like home as possible."

The manager and chefs of the canteen have been holding meetings to make detailed arrangements for the upcoming feast. They have also tried out many different combinations of dishes to make sure that the meal looks good, is tasty and nutritious and also reflects a positive spirit for the New Year of the Rat.
