Delayed train arrives in Guiyang

Railway transport is also resuming, and many passengers are on their way home at last. On Sunday night, a train from Shanghai finally arrived in Guiyang, after being delayed for over 50 hours.

After more than 50 hours' delay, the train has finally arrived.

All the passengers are coming from Shanghai . Usually the journey takes them 33 hours. But the disaster has made it nearly a four-day trip.

A passenger said, "We had waited in the Shanghai station for some 17 hours for the departure. On the way, the train stopped frequently. Fortunately, I have had a seat. For those who haven't, it's really a journey."

For many of the passengers, the capital city of Guiyang is only a transfer station. Delay of the train prolongs the whole journey home. Due to the severe power grids damage, The Guizhou section of railway connecting Guiyang and Shanghai , which is more than 300 kilometers, still has had no access to electricity.

A train conductor said, "We have tried our best, but things are beyond our control. The traffic resumes in a slow speed. But we did everything possible to serve and help the passengers on the train. We hope they can understand. Things are getting better."

The power supply along the railway may not be restored before the festival. Power generation equipments have been sent to needed places. Trains driven by internal combustion engines, other than electricity, are used for substitution-ensuring every passenger safely arrives at their destinations.
