The effects of China's severe drought this Autumn are continuing to plague one of the country's main waterways, the Yangtze river.

The water level in the Anqing section of the river is below two meters, posing a threat to waterway transportation. Meanwhile, China's largest freshwater lake, Poyang Lake is also affected due to little rainfall in the past two months.

At one of the hydrological stations monitoring the lake, the water level is just over eight meters approaching the lowest level ever recorded at the station. Local authorities say levels are continuing to drop at a speed of 10 centimeters per day. They say they are using every measure possible to find a solution to the problem.
