Measures are being taken along the Yangtze River to deal with seriously low water levels.

At one spot near Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province, the Yangtze River is only about one meter deep. More than 2,600 vessels are stranded. The local government has dredgers working around the clock to restore navigation. In Hunan province, the government has released water from reservoirs to ensure a normal supply for cities along the river.

Water levels in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River started to fall earlier this month after one of the worst autumn droughts in half a century.
