A magnitude 7.1 earthquake has jolted the Indian Ocean off Indonesia's Sumatra Island. But no casualties have been reported so far. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake was quite shallow at 30 kilometers deep. It was centered in the Indian Ocean, striking 135 kilometers west of Indonesia's largest city of Bengkulu.

Authorities issued a tsunami warning after it struck early on Thursday. But the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there have been no reports of destructive waves. Local residents are still nervous after a series of powerful quakes hit the region last month, leaving 23 people dead and destroying hundreds of buildings.
