Two Chinese warships, the guided missile destroyer "Harbin" and the fuel tanker "Hongzehu", have arrived in Sydney.

Australian Defense Minister Brendan Nelson welcomed their arrival. He described the visit as very important as the two countries celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The two warships with 483 crew members will join the Australian and New Zealand navies in the first maritime exercises to be staged early next month. They will practice communication, fleet formation, vessel supply, and search-and-rescue during the 2-day drill off the coast of Sydney.
