Donald Tsang and team take office

Chief Executive, Donald Tsang, and his new team, have been ceremonially sworn in for their 5-year term. Chinese President Hu Jintao and central government officials were in attendance.

Administered by Chinese President, Hu Jintao, Donald Tsang was sworn in as the third-term chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Donald Tsang said "I am sworn in as the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. I must act in accordance with the SAR's Basic Law, and be loyal to the SAR, serve the SAR, and bear the responsibility for the People's Republic of China, the central government, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region."

The principal officials of the Hong Kong SAR government, also stepped on the platform and took oath led by Donald Tsang.

Afterwards, Donald Tsang expressed thanks to President Hu Jintao for his trust and support, and his expectations in the coming 5 years.

Donald Tsang said "In the coming 5 years, I want to be with Hong Kong citizens to create a new Hong Kong. Although it is not the biggest city in China, we can make it best city. The best place to educate children to be professional,to enjoy life and create fortune. Of course, it is not easy to get, Hong Kong's achievements depend on the efforts of the generations, and the opportunities and support brought by China's rapid development."

Addressing the ceremony, President Hu Jintao, summarized the important experiences during the past ten years.

Hu said "We have achieved a lot of precious experience. First, fully appreciating and implementing 'one country, two systems'. The principle is an integral concept. 'One country' is the prerequisite of 'two systems'.

Secondly, strictly complying with the Basic Law. The supreme status of the Basic Law in Hong Kong's legal system must be upheld and the Basic Law must be strictly abided by.

Thirdly, giving high priority to promoting economic development and improving people's well-being. Only with continued economic development, can Hong Kong improve the life for its people, maintain stability and develop a democratic system that suits its

actual conditions.

Fourthly, upholding social harmony and stability. People from different social groups and sectors in Hong Kong...have different interests and priorities, but the vast majority of the Hong Kong people love the motherland and Hong Kong. There will be no problem or difference that can not be settled."

The president said the central government's policy is for a much brighter future for Hong Kong.
