Chinese President and chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao has reviewed troops of the PLA Garrison in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The inspection at the Stonecutters Island Naval Base is one of the many celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

Saturday's inspection involved 800 members of the army, air-force and navy. Chinese President Hu Jintao reviewed the garrison, a firm guarantee for Hong Kong's stability and prosperity for 10 years.

Over the past ten years, the PLA Hong Kong garrison has carried out the sacred mission of safeguarding China's sovereignty over Hong Kong, its territorial integrity and security of the special administrative region. The troops have been a guarantee of the long term stability and prosperity of the SAR.

The Garrison observes the Basic Law of Hong Kong, and the law governing its actions in the SAR. They are obliged to help maintain public security and assist with disaster relief.

Earlier this week, Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Hu Jintao honored the People's Liberation Army Garrison in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Their work has also gained the respect of the Hong Kong SAR government. Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang says he appreciates the contributions of PLA garrison troops in Hong Kong. He says the actions of the troops help firmly implement the principle of "one country, two systems".
