Special Report:   Deadliest US college massacre

Nerves are still on edge at Virginia Tech, just days after a South Korean student went on a shooting rampage, killing 32 people, before committing suicide. Students got another scare on Wednesday morning after a false alarm sparked a fresh security alert.

Fresh fears were raised on Wednesday morning as police and searcher dogs swarmed the area around the office of the university president in Burruss Hall just 48 hours after Cho Seung-Hui shot and killed 32 staff and students. But police now confirm this was a false alarm. Large numbers of police had turned up earlier, following a threat against President Charles Steger. And they say the stepped-up security could have sparked fears of a new shooter on another rampage.
