Special Report:   Deadliest US college massacre

Some students who witnessed and survived the shooting at Virginia Tech on Monday recounted the horrific scene. Some still feel anxious, others say they feel lucky to have escaped.

All question, though, why campus police didn't move quicker, after the first shooting in the dormitory.

Alec Calhoun, survivor, said, "Well, I think I was actually the last to jump. The two people behind me actually got shot. So it's really lucky that I got out to start with. Someone on the other side of the room had ripped the screens off and kicked the windows open, they're pretty old. And so I could see the people jumping in fronting of me. A couple of people broke ankles, legs, so I aimed for a bush and I hit the bush first and then the ground, so I was okay."

Erin Sheehan, survivor, said, "This was a 7:15 incident and then a 9:05 class. There was definitely time for an e-mail to be sent and people to be able to stay within their dorms or in their apartments and this not to happen. I mean, I think at least 30 people could have been spared."
