In the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, Japan and the DPRK have agreed to resume talks.

Discussions were suspended on Wednesday following a difference of opinion over the DPRK's abduction of Japanese nationals in the 1970s and 80s.

The latest round of talks in Hanoi aim to pave the way to normalizing bilateral ties, and are part of a disarmament deal struck last month in Six-party talks in Beijing.

Koichi Haraguchi, Japanese chief envoy, said, "We acknowledge the differences in our positions on issues including the normalization of ties, but we have agreed that presenting each other's opinion and developing an understanding of the differences will help improve the future of Japan-DPRK relations. For those reasons we have agreed to meet again. We will meet at the DPRK Embassy at 10 am to talk about the abduction issues and normalization of ties between the two countries."
