Special Report:   Iraq in Transition

The US military has put on display Iranian-made weapons it says are being used by Iraqi militants. The weapons were found during a raid by US forces and Iraqi police near the city of Baquba.

US military officials displayed 14 large rockets, 19 mortars, several bags of plastic explosives and several 122 millimeter rockets they say have been made in Iran since 2004. The military officials say there is no way of knowing if the Iranian government is involved in supplying them.

Washington, which accused Iran of fanning violence in Iraq, is particularly concerned about what it calls "explosively formed projectiles". These bombs shoot out a copper plate that becomes a large bullet-like projectile capable of penetrating armored vehicles when they are detonated.

The US military says such bombs have killed 170 US soldiers in Iraq since 2004.
