Elsewhere in the world struggles for independence and statehood continue. In the Palestinian Territories, gunmen from the rival factions, Hamas and Fatah, continue battling each other in Gaza despite a renewed truce and Arab mediation efforts. Meanwhile, top Israeli leaders say they won't intervene.

Israel does not intend to intervene in the power struggle between Palestinian factions. Israeli Deputy Prime Minister, Shimon Peres, made the comments on Sunday.

Shimon Peres, Israeli deputy PM, said, "Israel does not intend to intervene in Gaza. Let's the Gazans decide their own destiny, their own situation. Any attempt by Israel to intervene there will put Israel in an impossible situation. I do hope they'll find the proper solution, but only they can do it, nobody else can do it instead of them, or should do it instead of them."

Peres' comments were echoed by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who also warned the Palestinian internal dispute may reflect on Israel's security.

Ehud Olmert, Israeli PM, said, "Israel is following the events in Gaza Strip and hopes that the violence in the Gaza Strip between the Palestinians will end, and the violence and terror against the state of Israel will stop completely."

Palestinian factional fighting continued in Gaza City's beach front neighborhoods and around security compounds.

One man was killed and 13 people wounded on Sunday.

Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, are to meet on Tuesday in the Saudi Arabian holy city of Mecca, for a reconciliation meeting hosted by Saudi King Abdullah.
