An Islamic Resistance Movement militant has been killed in the Gaza strip. The Islamic group is blaming a Fatah-dominated security service for the attack. It's the first killing in the Palestinian territories since a ceasefire between the two factions went into effect on Monday night.

Medical sources in the southern town of Khan Younis identified the victim as Hussein al-Shubasi. He was shot in the head.

A spokesman for Hamas's armed wing has confirmed that a militant in its group was killed by the Preventive Security Service. Most members of the security service belong to Fatah. But the group denies any connection with his death.

Meanwhile, a Hamas spokesman says Fatah and the Palestinian authority must be committed to the ceasefire. This, to achieve solidarity and unity among all of the Palestinian parties.

The incident jolted a truce between rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah after five days of bitter fighting.

The truce took effect after Prime Minister Ismail Haneya of Hamas met an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday to stem the internal fighting. At least 30 Palestinians have been killed in the violence.

The ceasefire requires the two conflicting groups to withdraw their militants from the streets and remove all checkpoints.

The two sides have also agreed to resume dialogue during the talks with the presence of an Egyptian mediating delegation.
