Special Report:   Iraq in Transition

New York Senator Hillary Clinton is taking her presidential campaign to Iowa, one year before the state's first caucus. She describes the way that US President George W. Bush is handing over the war in Iraq to his successor, as "the height of irresponsibility".

The former First Lady opened her campaign in Iowa, with a town hall-style forum before about 300 activists. During her speech, Clinton demanded President Bush to pull troops from Iraq before his term ends.

Hillary Clinton, US senator, said, "And as some of you might recall, he has said on more than one occasion he is leaving this to his successor. Which I think is the height of irresponsibility and what we have to do is put enormous pressure on him to end the war he started and bring our troops home."

Meeting with reporters, Clinton says she is ready to run for presidency.

Hillary Clinton, US senator, said, "You know, I want people to judge me on the full range of responsibilities that a president has to face and I think I am prepared to hit the ground running in January 2009."

Clinton faces a crowded Democratic field to become a presidential nominee. Dominating the early stages of the race are Illinois Senator Barack Obama and Delaware Senator Joe Biden.

And it is no easier in the equally packed Republican field. Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Senator John McCain of Arizona, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will all have to prove they have presidential qualities.
