US Democratic Senator Obama takes 1th step to make presidential bid

US Democratic Senator, Barack Obama, has taken his first step to make a bid for the country's presidency.

He's filed papers to create a committee to raise funds and hire staff for the campaign. In a video message on his website, Obama said he's been struck by how eager the American public is for a different kind of politics.

He's also promised more details when he speaks in his home state of Illinois next month. If successful in his bid, Obama will be the nation's first African-American President.
