UN urges Asian countries to be on alert for new outbreaks of bird flu

Hiroyuki Konuma, UN Food & Agriculture Organization, said, "FAO is asking countries to remain vigilant and fully cooperate with international organisations. It will probably take several years to contain and finally eradicate the H5N1 virus from the poultry sector."

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has called on the governments of countries around the world to remain vigilant against bird flu and the threat of a pandemic.
