Special Report:   Iraq in Transition

A bomb explosion in a Baghdad market has injured four people. In addition to the usual daily violence, there was also a robbery in the Iraqi capital.

Police say the blast took place in the mainly Shi'ite district of Za'faraniya, damaging the front of at least one shop.

Eyewitness, said, "A bomb was planted near a kiosk here because drivers and people were gathering there. It targeted civilians because it is a place where people and drivers gather. It is a pick up area where people gather to go to other areas."

Meanwhile, gunmen including some wearing police uniforms made off with the equivalent of 875 thousand U.S. dollars in cash. It was the second major heist in central Baghdad in 10 days.

The gunmen stole the cash from industry ministry employees who were picking up money for salaries from a bank in the Karrada district of Baghdad on Tuesday morning.

There were no injuries reported in the robbery.

Last week, gunmen wearing Iraqi army uniforms ambushed a security vehicle transporting money to the Central Bank in Baghdad and made off with 1 million dinar in cash.
