As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China plays an important role in international peacekeeping missions. Over the past decade, China has sent more than 4,000 peacekeeping troops to Africa. These missions are not just charter obligations for China. They are performed out of a sense of friendship with the Africans as well.

The blue helmet, a UN peacekeeping badge... these things are not usually on display. They are souvenirs for twenty-six year old Wu Minqing, once a Chinese peacekeeping troop in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Wu Minqing Chinese peacekeeper said, “This statue is a gift from the African people. They gave this to me as a souvenir, before we left the country. It symbolizes our friendship with the Africans.”
