CPPCC members seek greater roles

CPPCC member Li Xiaolin said, "What impressed me is the free and active discussions among the members on how to better function in our role as advisors."

CPPCC member Miao Helin said, "More study should be carried out on how to make democratic supervision a systematic approach."

CPPCC member Li Daokui said, "In one area we can greatly improve: we can invite more government officials to attend our group discussions."

The CPPCC brings together over the governing Communist Party, the non-Communist parties, and people with no party affiliation. They meet every year to discuss state affairs.

Each year at the CPPCC session, we see a growing atmosphere of democracy. This could be in light of China's multi-party cooperation system and consultation under leadership of the CPC. Still, members want to strengthen the supervision of the decision-making process. They hope that more of their proposals can quickly turn into policies. But, the CPPCC still has a long way to go before this can be realized.
